Making Learning and Reading Fun for the Kids
Our Services
Reading Group
Reader’s World Summer Program offers 30 minutes Reading Group sessions daily. This is designed to help students in the Voluntary Pre-kindergarten program (VPK) through the third grade in developing the literacy skills they will need at school and in the future.
The Reading Group process begins with a comprehensive academic evaluation, aimed at assessing your child's strengths and weaknesses when it comes to reading. This evaluation also allows us to gain a greater understanding of his or her learning style and goals, enabling us to prepare the best reading tutoring program for overall success. Students will be then grouped according to reading abilities and report to Reading Group where:
* Teachers models reading while students follow along
* Students read aloud collectively
* Students read aloud individually
Online Learning
The online program we use is called “Reading Eggs.” Students work online for 30 minutes a day. This program makes learning to read interesting and engaging for the kids. It also includes great online reading games and activities—and it really works!
Children love the games, songs, golden eggs, and other rewards, which, along with feeling proud of their reading, really motivate children to keep exploring and learning.
Small Group Instruction
At Reader’s World Tutoring Program, students are actively engaged in a 30-minute teacher led Small Group Lesson each day. There are numerous benefits when small group instruction is implemented well. Students develop relationships with many of their peers. They are given opportunities to discover commonalities, strengths and weaknesses, as well as ways to help each other.
The instructor has more time to meet the needs of students who may require greater teacher guidance while also giving her high achievers more time to work independently at a pace that promotes active learning. Group instruction help students develop their communication skills and—in doing so—their confidence.
D.E.A.R – Drop Everything and Read!
This activity is done daily for 15 minutes. Our assertion around here is that reading, whether a student is on their own, laying on the floor, or cozied up on the couch, is so much more fun and rewarding than just about anything else, especially, chores! That is why we tell the children to drop what they’re doing, pick up a book, and read for 15 minutes every day!
Circle time
.OOur 30 minute Circle Time is designed to equip to help students review and sight words and special sounds and practice spelling new words. During this time students will be learning phonetic, decoding and encoding skills needed to enter the next grade confidently. During circle time your child will be actively involved in Phonetic sing-alongs, kinesthetic learning and visual displays.
Independent Activity
During that 30-minute block, students are encouraged to pick a “Fun Reading Center” of their choice! Some of the choices to pick from include: Computer, Table Top or Board Games, Listening Center, Writing Center etc.
